Just like that time a homeless man screamed “You’re in the jungle, baby!” at Axl Rose, sometimes a chance encounter can tap you into a new zone of creative inspiration. Such was the case for musos-turned-brewers Abe and Jase from Bassline Brewing, based in Karori, Wellington.
For these guys blowing off some creative steam used to mean picking up an instrument - or at least that was the case until the pair were each gifted a bottle of mind-blowing local homebrew. From there, the pair were hooked and quickly took to experimenting with creative brews of their own.

A full bodied chocolate vanilla stout, brewed with a truckload of fairtrade cacao nibs and vanilla pods. Like drinking liquid chocolate, only better because it's beer.
Pacific Daydream - Pacific Pale Ale (5% ABV)
A citrusy, easy-going pacific ale brewed with hibiscus flowers. The flowers bring a subtle tart cranberry & citrus flavour to the beer, and give it a red colour.
Working Class Mango - New England IPA (6% ABV)
A big juicy, hazy New England IPA (NEIPA) inspired by the Mango Lassi drink. It’s brewed with a huge amount of mango puree and US/NZ hops.

Slackline Sour - Boysenberry Gose (4.0% ABV)
This kettle-soured Boysenberry Gose features boysenberries from Hawkes Bay and pink Himalayan sea salt. Not too sour and not too salty, its simply a beautifully refreshing drop. And did we say pink? Oh yeah, it's definitely pink!
Hazy Hob Bomb – NEIPA (5.2% ABV)
Welcome to the word of New England IPA’s. This hazy hop bomb is loaded with Simoce & Mosaic hops and will explode a flavour grenade inside your mouth!
Denali Danger Zone - American Pale Ale (6.0% ABV)

Shadow Soul IPA. (7.4% ABV)
This IPA is brewed with three American hop heavyweights - Citra, Mosaic & Simcoe, and weighs in at a fairly assertive 7.4%. Bursting with a tropical and stone fruit character, rounded off with a touch of citrus, this promises to be a real crowd pleaser over the summer months. Bitterness is low, softened by a minimal bittering hop addition and the use of flaked oats which also helps to produce a lovely tight head and creamy mouthfeel – surprisingly easy to drink for its strength.
Rapscallion IPA (6.5% ABV)
Rapscallion, as the name suggests, is sure to give you a cheeky grin. Loaded with Riwaka, Summit and Pacifica hops, this IPA has bright notes of passion fruit and blood orange on the nose and resinous pine & bitter marmalade flavours on the palate, which peaks at the back of the mouth. A bold fruity finish rounds this beer off beautifully.
Carrot top – U.S. Amber Ale (5.4% ABV)
(Gold at BGNZ 2016, Bronze at AIBA 2016, Bronze at BGNZ 2015)
This crisp brew is a malt-forward American Amber Ale, well balanced with sturdy hop bitterness and flavour to keep it on an even keel. Instantly refreshing with a long dry finish, this is a great beer for those looking for drinkability but still craving full hop flavour.
Guava Berliner – Berliner Weisse Collaboration (3.8% ABV)
Black Dog got together with Fork Brewing for our first collaboration and brewed a traditional Berliner Weisse, adding a healthy dose of guava fruit to the mix. We allowed the yeast to consume all of the sugar form the guava, leaving a subtle, slightly tart guava flavour behind. Sitting at the lower end of the spectrum as far as strength goes, this is a truly refreshing Berliner Weisse, not too sour and perfect for the hot summer months ahead.

The unit is our version of NZ Hopped I.P.A. With hints of grapefruit, passion-fruit & spicy citrus, backed up with those hop aromas only found in Aotearoa, it seems a lot for one beer, but it ain't called The Unit for nothing!
The Juice Dry Hopped Gose (4.5% ABV)
The juice is a German-style sour wheat ale, brewed with salt. We sour it in the kettle then ferment it with a clean yeast. Our version is a bit different to the originals as we dry hop it in the fermenter to give it another dimension of flavour. This is a clean tart ale with some lemon and lime flavours.
Outlaw IPL (5.2% ABV)
Outlaw is your typical lager... oh actually no its not. Its hopped up like a mofo with loads of late additions in the kettle and fermenter which will give some nice tropical fruit characters.
The Darkness India Stout (5.8% ABV)

First Brewed: 2014. We're a pretty lucky bunch to live here in New Zealand - Godzone country! Great music, great barley & maltsters and fantastic hop varieties… What better way to celebrate them all than in a pint? A Crowded House of Nelson Sauvin hops, DD Smashed with some Taiheke & sprinkled with Herbs in the form of Riwaka, this is an ode to our hop! Who doesn't love an orangey, grassy New Zealand Pale Ale with hints of lychee, pine & lime marmalade! Best served with a good dose of Kiwi music.
Slip Pils – German Style Pilsner (5.2% ABV)
First Brewed: 2016. Taking inspiration from Firestone Walker’s Pivo Hoppy Pils from California, our Slip Pils tips its foamy white hat by presenting a super- clean, amazingly drinkable combination of sweetness and dryness dispensed by prescriptions of delightful German hops! This concoction of Perle and Saphir German hops treats us to a lovely floral/herbal bitterness as well as rich, oily, lemon zest to create a wonderfully perfumed floral aromatic. A dose of German Pilsener malt from Wyermann remedies Slip Pils with a clean, subtle bready/doughy characteristic. To excellent drinkability, Prost!
Bit A - English Pale Ale/Bitter (4.1% ABV)
Okay, so this new release takes its inspiration from the ridiculously drinkable English Pale Ales (or Bitters as they are often referred to) from the UK. They are often termed Ordinary Bitters when judging this class of beer, but they are far from ordinary and far from bitter! So this means I’ve decided to call it an English Pale Ale... beer seems to sell better when it isn’t
Aroma: Sweet caramel malt character dominates with a subtle berry-like hop character.
Flavour: Initial biscuit-malt sweetness on the front of the palate, followed by sweet raspberry and lemon-lime hop notes on the tongue. Finishes with a light bitterness and cracker-like malt back-palate.
Cherry 2000 - Cherry & Cinnamon Gose (5.0% ABV)
Tart and fruity with a light salty tang on the back palate; finishes with the faintest hint of cinnamon spice. This one stands out- Dazzling lipstick red and as bright as a button!
Base Jumper – APA (5.4% ABV)
This American Pale Ale brings a lovely malt balance to bold assertive hop character. A decent bitter kick rounds this one off to a tee.

Flamboyance – Pomegranate Saison (5.7% ABV)
A fully flamboyant saison brewed with a traditional malt base with the addition of pomegranate molasses and lemon zest. A complex beer with a Belgian yeast character that produces hints of clove and bubblegum. The pomegranate molasses and lemon zest add a tart acidity and subtle tannin's.

This attractive, soft Pinot Noir shows red berry, dark plum and cherry flavours with fragrant fresh hay and savoury oak characters. On the palate, it is soft and round, with a hint of spicy smoky oak and a long finish.

North End is a small brewery on the Kapiti Coast formed by a brewer, a waiter and a chef. We brew aromatic, food friendly beers that are as at home on the dinner table as they are at the beach, the bach or the bar.
Super Alpha - Pacific Pale Ale (5% ABV)
A hoppy refreshing pacific pale ale that uses the crisp tartness of wheat malt and a blast of fruity NZ hops to create a crisp refreshing beer. Initially designed by Head Brewer Kieran Haslett-Moore to wash the taste of sea water from his mouth after hauling in his crab pot, Super Alpha takes it’s name from an unusual variety of NZ hop that gives the beer its trademark lemon grass character.
Beach Hoist - American IPA (6.5% ABV)
Started as a collaboration with Barley Browns from Oregon, taking the Pac North West style of IPA and using NZ Hops. It has now taken on a life of it's own.
Excelsum – Bush Wit Bier (5% ABV)
Brewed using locally foraged Kawakawa & Lemon Leaf.
La Mure - Blackberry Farmhouse Ale (5% ABV)

Our interpretation of a traditional Gose combining mild lactic tartness , coriander spicing and a malt accenting salt character
Biere Du Norde - Bière de Garde (6.7% ABV)
Collaboration between North End and Emerson's, the beer style is a strong pale ale. Biere du Norde is a kiwi take on this style, brewed with predominatenly pilsner and munich malts, lightly hopped with Saaz and Spalt hops. It has a toasty malt body with a slight nutty flavour, and is very easy to drink!
Old Island - Burton Strong Ale (6.5% ABV)
An old style of British ale recently revived. Fruity, malty and well hopped.
Saison de Terrior - Wild Farmhouse Ale (6.5% ABV)
French winemakers use the word ‘terroir’ to describe the influence of the local environment on the wines that they make. We have helped add a big dose of ‘terroir’ into this beer by taking our Saison and re-fermenting it in barrels with a blend of wild yeasts from Waikanae. The result is tangy, lightly tart and extremely fruity.
La Voile Noir - Dark Farmhouse Ale (6% ABV)
Natural wine producers call the protective layer that forms in their barrels ‘the veil’. For our birthday we blended three different barrel aged beers that have all matured under ‘the veil’ and we created: La Voile Noir, French for "The Dark Veil." The result is a barrel aged dark ale that touches on both the Saison and Dubbel styles balancing flavours of spice, chocolate, barrel fruit, and acidity.
Panhead is New Zealand's very own craft brewing monster truck rally, putting the frighteners on anyone who thinks beer should mind its own business and cower behind the wine rack. Launched in 2013 out of the old Dunlop tyre factory in darkest Maidstone, we were embraced enthusiastically from the get go by Wellington's beer cognoscenti of beardy app developers, design grads and contractors from the Ministry of Social Development.

We love good beer. We loved drinking it before we ever started brewing it and our recipes are written by working backwards from what we'd like in our glass. A lot has changed in our six years, but that hasn't. Our range is a gradually expanding and diverse cast of characters, like us. L.B. Beer Hefeweizen (5.0% ABV)
A very pale German Wheat and Pilsner malt base, fermented with a traditional German-style Hefeweizen yeast, providing refreshing green banana and clove characters on top of a luscious wheat mid-palate.
L.B. Beer Session Pale Ale (3.7% ABV)
A very pale, NZ Ale malt, wheat malt and rolled oats grist fermented with our house ale yeast and generously dry hopped with Citra, Amarillo and Centennial – giving citrus and stonefruit characters with a hint of pine. Unfiltered.
Kowhai Double IPA (7.9% ABV)
The combination of massively aromatic New Zealand grown Riwaka and Australian Vic Secret hops is full of intensely juicy tropical and citrus flavours — and this beer lets them shine, lets them sing.
Forget-Me-Not WCIPA (6.9% ABV)
Famed for celebrating punchy, bitter hops on a strong-but-dry golden base, the West Coast hop growers kept on innovating, as well, and we’ve used several ‘new school’ varieties for a fresh, tropical and citrus hit.

Our first-ever lager took flight among the ‘new world’ pilsners which put lively modern hop varieties onto the crisp, light and refreshing body of the classics.

Modern U.S. hop flavours of citrus and tropical fruit, lets them soar on a light and nimble malt body.
Originally based in the back of Brewtopia Home Brew Supplies in the central Wellington district of Te Aro, the growing range and demand for Te Aro Brewing Co’s beers means the bulk of the brewing is now done in Upper Hutt.
You can still pop in and fill a rigger in Brewtopia at 130 Tory Street though. Or better yet, pick up the recipe and some ingredients from the shop and have a go at making our beer yourself.

Not a classic Pilsner - this is charged with Kiwi hops - dank from Riwaka, tropical from Nelson Sauvin. Smooth honey malt profile with clean bitterness.

APA (5.7% ABV)
Featuring Citra hops and a special blend of malts. This is our time-tested, Tailor-ed APA. A lovely citrusy aroma, deep golden colour, and clean on the palette. If you like a refined America Pale Ale, then this is the beer for you. Pair it with fish and chips to enjoy a classic combination.
APA 2.0 (7.0% ABV)
Introducing our first Tinker APA. We took our classic APA and, well, tinkered with it. We added wheat, we changed up the hops, we experimented with the grain bill. With heaps of fruity flavour, this full-bodied, opaque beer has plenty of character. Try it with a spicy Thai curry to get your tastebuds really going.
Vienna Lager (5.0% ABV)
A traditional European-style lager. Redder in colour than your usual pilsner or lager, but just as crisp. Designed to appeal to newer craft beer drinkers it is malty, but not too hoppy, and is a great, easy-drinking beer. A delicious chestnut colour, with just a hint of chocolate. Pairs really well with a beef burger.
Vienna Lager 2.0 (5.0% ABV)
Lighter in colour than the Tailor Vienna Lager, version 2.0 has a generous addition of NZ hops to bring out its spicy flavours. Another great sessionable summer beer. Complement its toasty, caramel tones with the sweetness of roasted vegetables or meats
Tuatara Brewing Co started out as a farm shed operation on the Kapiti Coast 17 years ago making traditional styles, the German lagers, Czech pilsners but made locally, so people were getting them fresh rather than stale imported beers. After a few years we decided to use more kiwi grown hops and barley which led to taste and aroma profiles that are quite different to beers made from international ingredients. Now our beers have evolved from Kiwi twists on traditional styles to almost unique styles in their own right. Winning NZ’s Champion Brewery 2017 award shows we must be doing something right! As one of NZ’s largest craft breweries, we are in the fortunate position of having a pilot brewery (The Third Eye tap room) in Wellington to toil away with weird, interesting and sometimes challenging brews and also the Paraparaumu brewery to get our big brews out to the Kiwi public and beyond.
Coastin Session IPA (4.6% ABV)
Taste: Distinctly quaffable. Refreshing and juicy tropical fruits initally, finishing with a gentle herbal spice and malt sweetness.

Helluva Lager (5% ABV)
Taste: Smooth, balanced lager with hints of lemon and a lovely bready malt.

Mot Eureka Pilsner (5% ABV)
Taste: Crisp, firm bodied with notes of citrus and grass. Good hop bitterness and refreshingly dry finish.

Kapai Aotearoa Pale Ale (5.8% ABV)
Taste: Citrus, grapefruit and herb flavours with a fresh hop finish.
Aroma: Tropical fruits and orange marmalade.
Hopfinity NZIPA (7% ABV)
Taste: A mix of citrus, vinous and herbal flavour with a subtle malt sweetness. Smooth bitter finish.
Aroma: Citrus, pine, sauvignon grape
Sanctus Apricot Ardennes (7.5% ABV)
Taste: Clove, banana, lemon zest and nutmeg balanced with jammy apricot flavours. A light malt body and sweetness fill the mid-palate with a smooth dry finish.
Aroma: Vibrant fruity esters, phenolic spicyness and subtle hint of the ripe apricot stone fruit within
We’re looking for a subtle flavour palate where yeast balances out a lightly hopped flavour profile. We’re excited about where we are heading under head brewer Dale Gould’s delicate touch and adventurous spirit. We’re making beers for lovers of lighter styled craft beer.
All our beers are brewed in our Ghuznee Street brewery, which is the best that we could build. We are committed to delivering Brewery Fresh Beer.
Red Pils (4.7% ABV)
A combination of a Czech and NZ style, we use new old world hops (hallertau blanc) and old new world hops (Wakatu and Taiheke) to take you down a different road.
XPA (4.7% ABV)
Base and specialty malts give a lovely body to this benevolent ale with a nice balancing bitterness and juicy mandarin (from the generosity of the Bavaria mandarina hops).
Golden Ale (4.7% ABV)
We aren't goldbricking, this is the real deal, a tasty mouthfilling golden ale with a dash of golden Australian hops, a power of golden New Zealand grain ! A kolsch style ale Hops: Galaxy , Ella, Taiheke and Moutere
Coconut Milk Stout (4.7% ABV)
